AI Use in Manuscript Preparation

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use in Manuscript Preparation Policy

Professional Evidence-based Research and Advances in Wellness and Treatment (PERAWAT) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and manuscript preparation. The journal permits the responsible use of AI tools while maintaining the principles of research integrity, transparency, authorship, confidentiality, and accountability.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to use AI tools responsibly and ensure that the use of such technologies does not compromise the quality, integrity, or ethical standards of the scholarly publication process.

  1. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of AI or AI-assisted tools in manuscript preparation when such tools have been used to generate, modify, translate, analyze, or substantially improve the manuscript. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly describe its role in the preparation of the manuscript.
  2. Author Responsibility and Accountability
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of their manuscript, including any content generated or modified with the assistance of AI tools. AI tools cannot be listed as authors and cannot assume responsibility or accountability for the published work.
  3. Verification of AI-Assisted Content
Authors must carefully review, verify, and, where appropriate, independently validate all AI-assisted content before submission. Any factual errors, inaccurate references, fabricated information, inappropriate interpretations, or misleading statements resulting from the use of AI remain the responsibility of the authors.
  4. Academic Integrity and Ethical Use
AI tools must not be used to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, results, references, images, or other scholarly materials. The use of AI must comply with applicable ethical standards, research integrity principles, copyright requirements, and intellectual property rights.
  5. AI Use in Peer Review
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related materials. Reviewers should not upload, share, or disclose confidential manuscript content, reviewer comments, or other unpublished information to publicly accessible AI tools or third-party systems. Any permitted use of AI-assisted technologies must not compromise the confidentiality, integrity, objectivity, or independence of the peer-review process.
  6. Human Oversight and Scholarly Judgment
AI-assisted technologies may be used to support manuscript preparation and other appropriate scholarly activities, but they must not replace the authors' scholarly judgment, critical analysis, interpretation, or responsibility for the research. All substantive academic decisions and interpretations must remain under appropriate human oversight.
  7. Corrections and Publication Integrity
If errors, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns related to the use of AI are identified after publication, Professional Evidence-based Research and Advances in Wellness and Treatment (PERAWAT) may request clarification, correction, or other appropriate action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and correction policies.
