Peer Review Process

Bulletin of Inspiring Developments and Achievements in Midwifery applies a rigorous and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and scientific integrity of published articles.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Bulletin of Inspiring Developments and Achievements in Midwifery undergo an initial editorial screening to assess their suitability for the journal's Aims and Scope, compliance with the Author Guidelines and manuscript template, basic academic quality, and adherence to publication ethics.

Manuscripts may be returned to authors for revision at this stage or declined if they are outside the journal's scope, do not meet the basic submission requirements, or have substantial deficiencies.

2. Plagiarism and Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and inappropriate text similarity using Turnitin before being sent for peer review. Authors are also responsible for ensuring that their submissions do not contain plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other copyright violations. The editorial team uses the Turnitin similarity report as part of the initial screening process to identify potential plagiarism and inappropriate text overlap. Manuscripts that raise concerns regarding plagiarism, duplicate publication, or significant inappropriate similarity may be returned to the authors for clarification or rejected in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.

3. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.

BIDAN applies a single-anonymized (single-blind) peer review process, in which the reviewers are aware of the authors' identities, while the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors.

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations of the manuscript.

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:

  • originality and novelty;
  • relevance to the journal's scope;
  • scientific significance and contribution;
  • clarity and appropriateness of the research objectives;
  • methodological rigor and validity;
  • presentation and interpretation of results;
  • quality and relevance of references;
  • ethical considerations, where applicable; and
  • clarity and coherence of the conclusions.

Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.

5. Editorial Decision

After receiving the reviewers' reports, the editor evaluates the manuscript and the reviewers' recommendations. The editorial decision is based on the scientific quality of the manuscript and the reviewers' evaluations, while the editor retains responsibility for the final editorial decision.

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript.

6. Revision

When revisions are required, authors must respond to the reviewers' comments and submit a revised manuscript within the period specified by the editorial office.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

7. Confidentiality

The peer review process is conducted confidentially. Reviewers must not disclose, share, or use information obtained from manuscripts under review for purposes unrelated to the review process.

8. Conflict of Interest

Reviewers and editors must disclose any potential conflict of interest that could affect the impartiality of the review or editorial decision. Individuals with a significant conflict of interest will not participate in the review or editorial decision-making process.

9. Review Exceptions

All research articles published by Bulletin of Inspiring Developments and Achievements in Midwifery are subject to peer review. Any article type that does not undergo the standard peer review process will be clearly identified and its review process will be stated on the journal website.

10. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are based on the scientific merit, originality, relevance, and quality of the manuscript and are not influenced by the authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political views, or other non-scientific considerations.

11. Online Review System

The submission, review, revision, and editorial decision processes are managed through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
